The Band

SonDelSur

has been filling venues across the state since their inception in 2004. SondelSur (meaning “they are from the South”) has performed at many of Tasmania’s premier music events and has wowed audiences with their impressive sound. A performance by SondelSur is guaranteed to make any event a memorable one.

As Tasmania’s premier live musical group
SondelSur has a repertoire which begins around the 1970’s and reflects on Salsa traditions and mix a combination of jazz and Cuban rhythms. If you’re familiar with the sounds of the Afro Cuban All Stars, Los Van Van, Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, Hector Lavoe, Rubén Blades, Ray Barreto, Chucho Valdes and of course the Buena Vista Social Club, you’ll definitely be at home listening to SondelSur.

SonDelSur uses modern instrumentation which includes:

  • A big horn section of two trombone, a saxophone and a trumpet.
  • A rhythm section including congas, bongos, timbales, guiro, maracas, piano and bass.
  • Two fantastic vocalists (but the whole band ends up singing anyway!)
